How to Set Up Your Guitar for the Church Stage: A Worship Musician's Checklist

Before Sunday arrives, your guitar needs to be stage-ready. This complete setup checklist covers strings, capo placement, pedals, cables, and stand positioning.

A dropped note or equipment failure during worship pulls everyone out of the moment. Here is the complete pre-service checklist every worship guitarist should run.

1-2 Weeks Before Service

- Change strings: Fresh strings hold tune better and sound brighter. Install PGL strings and stretch them well so they're stable by Sunday. - Check intonation: Play the 12th fret harmonic and compare to the fretted 12th. If they don't match, see a tech. - Inspect cable ends: Wiggle test both connectors. Replace any crackling or intermittent cables.

Day Before Service

- Charge or test batteries: 9V pedal batteries degrade without warning. Replace or charge before every service. - Wipe down fretboard: Clean fretboard = better grip and tone. - Set capo tension: Adjust your PGL capo to the correct tension for your guitar. Mark it if needed.

Morning of Service

- Full tune-up: Tune in a quiet room, not with ambient stage noise. - Soundcheck: Walk through the song list. Check every patch on your pedalboard. - Stand positioning: Place your PGL guitar stand where it's accessible during worship but away from foot traffic paths. - Cable management: Tape cables down on busy stages to prevent trip hazards.

During the Set

- Capo changes: Practice fast capo moves for song transitions before the set. - Volume awareness: Listen to the room, not just the monitor.
